What is Experimental Psychology?
Experimental Psychology is a field of psychology that typically involves laboratory research in basic areas of discipline. Here at UCSD the majority of your time is spent doing research starting from year one.
Do you have a Clinical Psychology program?
We do not. There is a joint doctoral program for Clinical Psychology through San Diego state and the psychiatry department here at UCSD. For more information about this program click here.
I see you only have a MA program available for current UCSD students. Why is that?
The MA program is an integrated program designed for our undergraduates who are on the BS track.
What if I don't have my MA, can I still apply to the Ph.D. program?
Yes! In fact many of our applicants only have a Bachelors degree since you can earn your MA "along the way." Our first year of the Ph.D. program is equivalent to a MA program and after you've completed your first year requirements your eligible to apply for an MA.
What is the average time it takes your students to earn their Ph.D.?
On average our students graduate within 5-6 years, with 8 years being the maximum.
How many people typically apply and how many get in?
For Fall 2009 entry, we had 380 applicants, 30 were admitted and 14 accepted.
What is the average GPA of your admitted applicants?
The average GPA of our admitted applicants was 3.71 with a standard deviation of 0.28.
What are the average GRE scores of admittedd applicants?
The average score for verbal was 658 with a standard deviation of 59 and for quantitative the average score was 737 with a standard deviation of 46.
Besides the TOEFL are there any additional requirements an international student should be aware of?
Due to restrictions in funding, international students must have independent funding or faculty sponsorship in order to gain admissions.
