The Department of Psychology is Honored
to Present a Talk by

Lisa Oakes
University of California, Davis

"Infants' Representation of Object Function"

Presented on May 1, 2008

Location: The Crick Conference Room
Mandler Hall, room 3545

About the Speaker:
Dr. Lisa Oakes studies the origins and early development of mental abilities in infancy. For example, Oakes and her team have examined how infants categorize -- that is, how do they form groups of objects such as cats, and recognize that the items in that group are different from objects such as dogs. Recent work has investigated the role of experience outside the lab (e.g., how to infants with pets versus those who don't have pets learn and remember pictures of animals differently?) in how infants learn and remember pictures of animals. Other work in this lab examines developmental changes in infants' memory for and perception of visually presented information.
