OFFICE HOURS AND STUDENT ADVISING

Office Hours
Faculty should establish office hours by the end of the first week of classes, and should notify the Student Services office of the times scheduled. A minimum of two hours/week is required, divided over at least two days, and at different times of day if all scheduled hours are M/W/F or Tu/Th.

Faculty relieved of teaching duties in a given quarter are still required to hold office hours by appointment. Faculty on sabbatical leave (except sabbatical in residence) or on leave of absence need not schedule regular office hours.

Visiting Lecturer Office
Lecturers are typically housed in Mandler Hall 2580. The Student Affairs Manager will furnish you with this information. Coordinate your office hours with the Student Services Office.

Student Advising
Graduate
All incoming graduate students must select a faculty advisor by the end of fall quarter of the first year of study. Students typically retain the same advisor for the first year. Advisors serve as graduate students' personal contact with the department: they advise students regarding departmental requirements and their academic programs. Graduate students meet regularly with their advisors during the quarter. Students may change advisors at any time. The Graduate Advisor approves requests for change in advisors.

Undergraduate
All undergraduate students are entitled to advising not only on particular course work but also regarding their curriculum and future plans, e.g., graduate school. Faculty are expected to set aside two hours per week for office hours. Should you have particular questions regarding the curriculum, please contact the Undergraduate Student Services office.
