Undergraduate Program in Experimental Psychology
B.A. Degree
General Education Requirements for a B.A. in Psychology
GEs
for the major should be completed by the end of the sophomore
year. These requirements will guarantee an adequate background
for the topics of the upper division courses:
1. Natural Science Courses
Three
lower division, general introductory natural science
courses from the listing of the approved UCSD courses
below or their equivalent. (The three courses can be
distributed in any manner):
Biology:
1, 2, 3, 10, 20,
24, 26, 30
Chemistry:
4, 6A, 6B, 6C, 11, 12, 13
Physics:
Any of the 1 and 2 series, 10, 11
2. Mathematics
Three
quarters of university level mathematics, of which one
quarter must be calculus. The other two courses
may consist of any combination of courses in calculus
or logic.
Mathematics: 10A, 10B, 10C; 20A, 20B, 20C
Philosophy: 10 and 12 (Logic)
3. Computer Programming
One quarter of computer programming:
CSE 3, 5A, 5B, 8A, 8B, 11, 12, MAE 5, 9, 10, or Cognitive
Science 18
Note: All Courses listed under 1 - 3 may be taken Pass/No Pass.
4. Statistics
One quarter of statistics:
Psychology
60, Econ 120A, Soc Sci 60, Math 10D, Math 181 (difficult),
Math 183 (regular stats), BIEB 100, BENG 100, or CogSci

Note: Statistics must be taken for a letter grade. A grade of
"B" or better is needed to participate in Psychology
111A & B (Advanced Statistics and Research).
Upper-division Course Requirements for the B.A. in Psychology
A
minimum of twelve upper-division Psychology courses is
required of which five have to be taken from the Core
Courses 101 - 106 and seven from the Elective Courses.
A minimum of six upper-division courses have to be
taken at UCSD. At least twelve upper-division courses
have to be taken for a letter grade. Excluded from credit
towards the major are Psychology 199 (Special Studies);
however, Psychology 195 (Instructional Assistance) can
be credited once. A grade-point average of at least 2.0
in the upper-division courses of the major is required
for graduation.
