EDUCATION ABROAD
Students are often able to participate in the UC Education Abroad Program (EAP) and UCSDs Programs Abroad Opportunities (PAO) while still making progress toward the major. Information on EAP/PAO is detailed in the Education Abroad Program of the UCSD General Catalog. Interested students should contact the Programs Abroad Office in the International Center, as well as the major or minor department. The Department of Psychology encourages students to participate in this program.
Students are advised to complete three of five core courses before going abroad and should plan to chart their major course requirements well in advance with a psychology advisor. This is particularly important for students who must graduate in little more than four years, as well as those who anticipate participating in the Psychology Department's Honors Program.
The department transfers no more than five classes towards the Psychology Major, and no more than three classes towards the Psychology Minor. For exact course substitution, the course needs to be equivalent.
Students wishing to enroll in the Psychology Honors Program should aim to study abroad before the winter quarter of their junior year.
The key to success is planning and pre-approval! Students considering studying abroad should discuss their plans with a psychology advisor (ugradpsych@ucsd.edu), before going abroad. Be sure to take your completed Academic Planning Form with you to your meeting. The department recommends that you take your core courses at UCSD.
Courses to be transferred toward the major or minor, must be the equivalent of at least four upper-division units at UCSD.
IMPORTANT: Students will need to be able to provide supporting evidence (i.e. syllabi, reading lists, exams, papers) of all courses taken abroad to be applied to their major or minor.
