- Psych 101: Introduction to Developmental Psychology
An undergraduate-level introduction to developmental psychology covering a
variety of topics, including prenatal, cognitive, and social development.

- Psych 187: Development of Social Cognition
An undergraduate-level course that examines reasoning about people from a
developmental perspective. Topics include emotional understanding,
achievement motivation, peer relations, social categories, and culture. A

- Psych 213: Professional Procedures and Survival in
Psychology
This graduate-level course, co-taught with Mark Appelbaum, covers a series
of basic issues associated with a career in psychology. We will address
topics such as getting and keeping a job, dealing with journal editors, and
writing a successful grant application. We will also discuss professional
ethics in relation to each topic. A syllabus from a previous quarter in

- Psych 217a: Graduate Developmental Proseminar
An graduate-level introduction to developmental psychology, focusing on
cognitive development. Topics include representation, social cognition,
problem solving, language, and memory.

- Psych 87: Seminar in Achievement Motivation
A one-credit undergraduate-level seminar. This course will cover motivation
and learning in school settings. A major focus will be why many intelligent
people do not reach their potential in school settings, and what can be
done to optimize their success. Topics will include theories of achievement
motivation, understanding procrastination, test anxiety, stereotype threat,
and the effects of praise and rewards on motivation.
- Psych 211: Development of Social Cognition
A graduate-level seminar that focuses on the development of children's
reasoning about people. Topics will include emotional understanding,
"theory of mind," trait thinking, gender role development, achievement
motivation, and cultural influences on person perception. These topics will
be approached from several different perspectives within psychology,
including developmental, cognitive, and social.
